Roles:
Directors of Construction are responsible for planning, budgeting and coordinating construction projects. Their roles depend on their industry and areas of expertise, but generally they include responsibilities like:

  • Reviewing contracts or bids with Construction Managers prior to bid approval meetings and agreeing on contractor selection, scope of work, schedule and construction start dates
  • Supervising construction projects, either in whole or in part
  • Managing all site personnel and subcontractors
  • Managing communications and negotiations with owners, lawyers, architects, engineers, and contractors throughout design, development, construction and renovation.
  • Establishing and maintaining construction time, quality and cost standards and estimating project costs
  • Ongoing, timely communication and reporting to senior management on major issues, challenges and performance.
  • Education:
    A degree in architecture, construction, engineering or construction management is usually required.
